Decisions, Decisions!

Our journey continues! We thought the hardest part was writing and being awarded the grant, but Kara and I are now tasked with the tough job of actually designing the classroom to provide the most comfortable, functional, aesthetically appealing and versatile active learning environment yet. We surveyed our current students this week, picking their brains for opinions on current classrooms as well as what they'd find most useful and appealing for our new classroom. Below are some of the results. Although this was helpful feedback, it's also a little bittersweet since the current group of students won’t be in this classroom next year. However, it’s been inspiring and humorous to plan with them. We had no idea we had such an opinionated group of young designers among us; they are excited and thoughtful with their feedback, proving they do understand and care about their environment for learning.

The next challenge is picking the paint colors and deciding on the remaining furniture. It's a challenge that we knew we'd have...we just didn’t think it would be so hard to choose! We've been reading the book Blueprint for Tomorrow by Prakash Nair. The importance of furnishings is highlighted as well as colors, materials and textures, clutter and ethos/aesthetics. We’re planning while considering so many factors and we hope that what comes out at the end is an awesome place for learning. We’ll keep you posted!
