FIRSTS

Welcome to room 211.  We are about to embark on our adventure into flexible learning spaces.  It’s going to be awesome.

A little background.  Last year my district adopted a 1:1 Chromebook model for students.  The laptops came and I struggled to integrate them into my classroom.  It wasn’t that I couldn’t meld them with my curriculum, it was the classroom management part that was the problem.  I lamented to my co-teacher Kara and we decided to call for help. It came in the form of our Instructional Technology Coach and Head of Technology and Innovation. They met with us and discussed the setup of our classroom, commenting on the stagnant furniture and room design.  But what could we do about it?  Nothing?!  Not so.  We ended up writing a grant for new classroom furniture, that would create a flexible learning space.  We got the grant last week!!  And here we are...at the beginning of our adventure.  So we thought we’d chronicle it along the way. From the old to the new, from the bumps to the brilliance, on the quest to learn how to make a flexible learning environment!
